Born and raised in San Francisco, school at UC Berkeley, worked as environmental planner. In AK since '75. Worked construction, built house, cabins, ran dogs, trapped a little, made radio, television and video documentaries, political ads, wrote books and a newspaper column, hunted, fished, grew potatoes. Married, kid, grandkids.
