Bio:
Originally from near Toronto, Canada. Hitchhiked to Alaska in 1961. B.A. and M.A. from UAF, and further graduate work in Anthropology at U. of New Mexico. Was in the Peace Corps for two years on Bolivian Altiplano in mid-1960's. Worked as an Anthropologist at the U. of Cuenca in Cuenca, Ecuador, for four years during the 1970's. Taught for 21 years in the Lower Yukon Delta from 1979-2000. Since retirement I've been very busy as an environmental activist. Work has been mostly with the Audubon Society, Northern Alaska Environmental Center, and Interior Alaska Land Trust. Other avocations besides writing are: wood carving, bird watching, cross-country skiing, trekking, skating and canoeing. Lives with wife Jennifer off Goldstream Road in Fairbanks. Three children: Eric, Avelina and Steven.
